-Cinco De Mayo is NOT Mexico's Independence Day, it is celebrated September 16th
- Cinco De Mayo actually is celebrating Mexican Military Victory
- Los Angeles hosts the worlds largest Cinco De Mayo Celebration. The first celebration of Cinco De Mayo took place in California in 1863
-May 5th is a huge day for avocado sales. The California Avocado Commission reports that 87 million pounds of avocados are purchased for Cinco de Mayo celebrations alone.
-In addition to the normal stuff, Chandler, AZ celebrates Cinco de mayo with Chihuahua races. Chihuahua owners enter their pups in a race and receive a large cash prize if their dog is the fastest.
- President FDR helped Cinco De Mayo come State Side. President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Good Neighbor Policy, passed in 1933 to improve relations with Latin American countries, paved the way for Cinco de Mayo to become a more mainstream American holiday.
