Thanks to the Orange County Water District for their groundwater treatment services!

We’re not the only company out there that provides a groundwater treatment service. It’s time to give credit to the Orange County Water District (OCWD) and the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD). These two agencies are responsible for the design and creation of the groundwater replenishment system (GWRS) which is the world’s largest wastewater purification system for indirect potable reuse. The GWRS has been operational since January of 2008. The purpose of this system is to take highly treated wastewater that would have been released into the Pacific Ocean and purify it using a complex treatment process. This system can produce up to 70 million gallons of purified water every day and 23.5 billion gallons a year, amazing right?

The OCWD is in charge of managing two of the most significant water sources in Orange County, the Santa Ana river and the vast groundwater basin that flows through Irvine to Los Angeles. These two enormous sources of water are used to help produce water for the 2.3 million people that live in the area that the OCWD covers.

If you ever get a chance, check out the Orange County Water District website (www.ocwd.com), it shows all of their projects and gives detailed descriptions of their systems. As of right now the OCWD has produced about 110,000,000,000 gallons of water.
